In brief
A routine flight from Melbourne to Doha takes a tragic turn when a passenger unexpectedly collapses and dies. Flight attendants' protocol leads to an Australian couple sitting next to the deceased for the remainder of the journey, prompting concerns about the airline's response.
An Australian couple's anticipated journey to Venice turned into a distressing ordeal when they were asked to remain seated beside a deceased passenger during the final hours of their 14-hour flight from Melbourne to Doha. The tragic event unfolded when a female traveler collapsed mid-flight, leaving flight attendants to attempt lifesaving measures that ultimately proved unsuccessful.Mitchell Ring, a fellow passenger, recounted the incident in an interview with Australian program "A Current Affair," stating that the crew exerted every effort in vain to save the woman's life. "They did everything they could, but unfortunately, the lady couldn’t be saved, which was pretty heartbreaking to watch," he remarked. As the crew grappled with the situation, they attempted to move the body to the business class with a wheelchair, although logistical constraints of the aircraft prevented this. Instead, they moved Mr. Ring over one seat in their row, placing the deceased passenger where he had initially been seated. His wife, Jennifer Colin, expressed the emotional toll of the experience, stating, "I’m not a great flyer at the best of times," and ultimately relocated to a different row.Upon landing, Mr. Ring indicated that they were directed to remain seated while paramedics attended to the body. The couple stated that the airline offered little in terms of support or assistance following the traumatic experience. Responding to concerns raised by the couple, Qatar Airways issued a statement indicating that officials had engaged with the passengers to address their distress about the situation.
