On the evening of Friday, authorities reported an arson attack at the East Melbourne Synagogue, where a man poured flammable liquid on the front entrance and set it ablaze. Fortunately, the about 20 people inside managed to evacuate through a rear exit, and no injuries were reported. Firefighters quickly extinguished the flames, leaving only damage to the front door behind.

In a nearby location, the situation worsened as around 20 protesters rallied outside an Israeli restaurant, reportedly hurling offensive chants at diners. Chaos ensued when furniture was overturned, and objects were thrown, resulting in a broken window. While one protester was arrested for obstructing police, the overall disturbances left the restaurant staff hesitant to comment on the event.

Victorian Premier Jacinta Allan expressed deep concern over the visible animosity shown in both incidents.
