Former U.S. President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton have been subpoenaed by a congressional committee investigating the late Jeffrey Epstein’s extensive network. The subpoenas, issued by Republican James Comer, Chairman of the House Oversight Committee, also target eight other prominent figures as inquiries intensify concerning Epstein’s connections.

The committee's investigation gains momentum after the Trump administration’s controversial decision to withhold further federal files related to the late financier. This move has stirred discontent among both Trump’s supporters and liberal factions, with many believing these files could include a notorious “client list” involving high-profile individuals linked to Epstein.

Additionally, the subpoenas encompass senior officials from the Justice Department across multiple administrations—Obama, Trump, and Biden. Notably, current Attorney General Merrick Garland and former Attorneys General Jeff Sessions and William Barr have all been summoned to provide information. Former FBI directors James Comey and Robert Mueller are also expected to testify.

The federal prosecution against Epstein began in 2019, leading to charges of sex trafficking of minors. He died in jail later that year, under circumstances that continue to generate speculation and skepticism. This summer, U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi stated that a review of Epstein’s records unveiled no evidence of the much-speculated client list and upheld the conclusion that he died by suicide.

The committee’s actions indicate a determination to extract more information from the Trump administration regarding Epstein, amid a climate of increasing scrutiny and calls from within the Republican caucus for a thorough investigation. The ongoing hearings will likely amplify discussions about the complexities surrounding Epstein’s life and death, further intertwining it with the fabric of American politics.
