NASHUA, N.H. (AP) — A tragic shooting incident marred a wedding at the Sky Meadow Country Club in New Hampshire on Saturday, leading to the death of one person and injuries to two others. The deceased has been identified as 59-year-old Robert Steven DeCesare.
Authorities arrested 23-year-old Hunter Nadeau, charging him with second-degree murder for the fatal shooting of DeCesare, with implications of additional charges stemming from the injuries of other victims.
New Hampshire's Attorney General John Formella and Nashua Police Chief Kevin Rourke confirmed the arrest and the unfolding investigation, which still seeks to establish a motive behind the attack. Notably, there is currently no known connection between Nadeau and DeCesare.
"We heard about six shots, and everybody ducked for cover," said Tom Bartelson, a guest at the wedding who witnessed the chaos unfold. Eyewitness accounts detailed a scene of panic as attendees sought refuge while shots rang out.
Authorities were quick to respond, with emergency services flooding the scene amid a chaotic atmosphere of fear and uncertainty. The condition of the two injured individuals remains undisclosed as the community grapples with the implications of this violent act.
The bereaved family expressed their grief, with DeCesare’s mother recounting the moment she lost sight of her son following the attack. Eyewitness Emily Ernst described a figure in all black who instigated the turmoil, raising the gun before fleeing the scene.
Mayor Jim Donchess expressed resilience and confidence in law enforcement to navigate the evolving situation and restore safety in the community, emphasizing the importance of vigilance in all neighborhoods.
