In a stark demonstration of the ongoing strife between Russia and Ukraine, reports from the Ukrainian government indicated that after a declared three-day cease-fire by President Vladimir Putin, Russian forces unleashed a wave of drone strikes across the country. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky quickly dismissed Russia's claim of a cease-fire, labeling it a "manipulation" aimed at delaying genuine peace. In his nightly address, he pointed out that Ukraine had previously accepted an unconditional 30-day cease-fire at the suggestion of the United States; however, Russia had failed to reciprocate with similar commitments, particularly related to halting attacks on civilian infrastructure.
"The time for waiting is over. A true cease-fire must be immediate, comprehensive, and last for at least 30 days to be meaningful," Zelensky stated. He emphasized that a temporary cease-fire merely followed by renewed violence was unacceptable.
Despite the chaos, Ukrainian forces proved resilient, managing to intercept and shoot down 37 of the attacking drones on Tuesday morning, with several intercepts taking place in the Kyiv region—a stark reminder of the ongoing threat faced by civilians.
