In brief
In an extraordinary fusion of historical homage and contemporary solidarity, a trio of pilgrims has successfully completed a seven-month journey from Spain to Saudi Arabia on horseback, recreating the legendary pilgrimage of Andalusian Muslims. Destined for the Hajj, the three riders—Tarek Rodriguez, Abdallah Rafael Hernandez Mancha, and Abdelkader Harkassi Aidi—faced myriad challenges along their nearly 4,000-mile trek while documenting their experiences on social media platforms.
The project, dubbed "Hajj on Horseback," served as both a religious pilgrimage and a bold attempt to connect the past with the present. Over the course of this demanding journey, the pilgrims encountered wildlife, varied landscapes, and logistical hurdles. In Bosnia, they struggled to find replacement horses after theirs broke free near hazardous terrain, while in France, they faced near disaster when one horse panicked in a muddy tunnel.Aidi recounted the tense moments, saying, "We were really scared. We didn’t know what to do. There were too many horses jumping. We thought we would lose that horse." Despite the treachery of the roads, the spirit of camaraderie and the strength of their faith pushed them forward. The project reached a wide audience, garnering over 345,000 followers on Instagram and more than 250,000 on TikTok. Their posts—which captured moments of camping, cooking, and engaging with local communities—received over 550,000 views collectively, showcasing not just the challenges of their journey, but also the beauty of cultural exchange. With their journey now complete, the triumphant trio has succeeded in blending ancient pilgrimage traditions with modern storytelling, reminding viewers of the enduring power of faith, community, and adventure.
