Indianapolis (AP) — Former NFL quarterback Mark Sanchez was involved in a violent encounter that left him hospitalized in a downtown Indianapolis alley. The incident occurred during the early hours of Saturday when Sanchez confronted a 69-year-old truck driver, leading to their altercation being captured on hotel video footage.

According to police affidavits, Sanchez, who appeared to be under the influence of alcohol, approached the driver who was completing his work duties in a box truck. He allegedly became aggressive, prompting the driver to defend himself with a knife when Sanchez came at him again.

Sanchez suffered stab wounds to his upper right torso and is currently in stable condition, as announced by Fox Sports. Amidst the chaos, the truck driver also sustained a cut to his cheek.

The confrontation was described as a rapid escalation of violence, beginning from a disagreement and leading to Sanchez being thrown to the ground and the driver using pepper spray before resorting to his knife. Sanchez was charged with misdemeanors including battery resulting in injury and public intoxication.

As the former quarterback was in Indianapolis to cover a game, the Fox Sports team expressed their concern over the incident during their pregame show and sent thoughts and prayers to both Sanchez and those involved.

The legal consequences following this altercation may unfold in an upcoming court appearance, as the Marion County Prosecutor emphasized they will follow the facts wherever they lead.
