U.S. President Donald Trump has stated he will not permit Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to annex the Israeli-occupied West Bank.

In remarks made before the Israeli prime minister's address to the UN General Assembly, Trump told reporters in the Oval Office: I will not allow Israel to annex the West Bank ... It's not going to happen.

Trump, who is scheduled to meet Netanyahu, also mentioned that negotiations concerning a Gaza resolution are nearing completion.

The situation is intensifying as global sentiments grow against Israel's military actions in Gaza and its ongoing occupation of the West Bank, with a rising number of Western nations formally recognizing an independent Palestinian state. Far-right factions within Israel view annexation as a strategy to thwart these developments.

Within Netanyahu's coalition, ultranationalists have reiterated calls for the outright annexation of the West Bank. The stance of the U.K. and Germany against annexation has been firmly conveyed, with UN Secretary General António Guterres decrying it as morally, legally, and politically intolerable. Similarly, Trump has been in communication with Middle Eastern leaders regarding the potential ramifications of such a move.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has expressed readiness to collaborate with international leaders on implementing a peace initiative, as he underscored the consequences of the occupation and conflict. He commended the nations that have recently recognized a Palestinian state.

As the Israeli military campaign continues, associated violence has tragically resulted in the deaths of thousands of Palestinians, including women and children, since hostilities escalated. Reports indicate severe humanitarian crises in Gaza, with international bodies warning of increasing starvation and destitution among the population.

In response to annexation threats, regional leaders have voiced their apprehensions. The U.S. currently maintains its stance against the recognition of Palestine, labeling it as counterproductive given Hamas's involvement.
