European leaders have come together in support of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky following a contentious meeting with former President Donald Trump in the White House. The confrontation erupted as Trump urged Zelensky to negotiate a deal with Russia and criticized him for not expressing sufficient gratitude for U.S. military backing. In response to Trump's comments, Zelensky asserted the need for peace, but acknowledged that maintaining strong international support for Ukraine is crucial.

In light of this exchange, leaders from Germany, France, Spain, Poland, and the Netherlands took to social media to showcase their solidarity with Ukraine. Zelensky expressed gratitude for their swift messages of support, underscoring the acknowledgment that "Ukraine is not alone."

French President Emmanuel Macron emphasized the clear roles in the conflict, stating, “There is an aggressor: Russia. There is a victim: Ukraine. We were right to help.” Dutch Prime Minister Dick Schoof echoed these sentiments, highlighting a desire for peace and asserting that support for Ukraine must be unwavering.

Germany's Chancellor Olaf Scholz reiterated the Ukrainian people's desire for peace, while incoming Chancellor Friedrich Merz insisted on not confusing the roles of aggressor and victim. Similarly, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk reinforced their nations' commitment, reassuring Ukraine of their continued backing.

Additionally, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese voiced their nations' dedication to supporting Ukraine in its defense against Russian aggression. Statements of support flooded in from other European leaders, consolidating a unified front in the face of Russian hostilities.

However, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban diverged from this consensus, expressing support for Trump, framing strong leadership as essential for peace. Despite the divide, Zelensky left the White House meeting determined to maintain a dialogue, emphasizing the necessity for Ukraine to be heard on the global stage.

In a post-visit interview, Zelensky recognized the tumultuous nature of his interaction with Trump but expressed hope that the relationship could be repaired. He reiterated the importance of international support, insisting that Ukrainians must feel connected and represented throughout the ongoing conflict.

As discussions progress, a summit hosted by UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer is set to focus on collaborative strategies for achieving a peaceful resolution to the war in Ukraine, amidst a backdrop of heightened tensions following the Trump-Zelensky encounter.
