Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has expressed a positive outlook following a recent conversation with US envoys regarding ways to resolve the Russia-Ukraine war.
During a call with Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner lasting nearly an hour, Zelensky reported the development of new ideas in terms of formats, meetings, and... timing on how to bring a real peace closer.
This communication came a day after he detailed an updated 20-point peace plan, which was agreed upon by US and Ukrainian representatives in Florida.
Zelensky mentioned that he requested the envoys to convey Christmas greetings to US President Donald Trump and his family.
The Kremlin announced that it is currently analyzing the proposals brought back from the US by a Russian envoy.
In recent dialogues, US officials have been aiming to facilitate negotiations between Ukraine and Russia, amid ongoing frustrations from the conflict that began with Russia's invasion in February 2022.
Progress appears to be emerging, as Zelensky commended the good ideas presented by Trump's envoys. He acknowledged that significant efforts are still necessary on sensitive issues but expressed confidence in collaborative approaches.
The updated peace proposal includes potential security guarantees from the US, NATO, and European nations, along with addressing the contentious conditions in Ukraine's eastern Donbas region.
While diplomatic channels are being explored, the conflict remains active, with Ukraine reportedly striking a key oil refinery in Russia's Rostov region, which supports military operations in occupied territories.
