Award-winning actress Catherine O'Hara died from a pulmonary embolism, her death certificate has revealed. O'Hara passed away on January 30 in a Los Angeles hospital at the age of 71, with the certificate also listing rectal cancer as a long-term cause of death.

It was noted that she had been receiving treatment for the cancer since March 2025.

Tributes have poured in for the Canadian actress, who most recently appeared in the Emmy-winning comedy 'The Studio' and 'The Last of Us.' Actor Seth Rogen expressed his devastation, describing O'Hara as 'hysterical, kind, intuitive, generous.' He remarked, 'We’re all lucky we got to live in a world with her in it.'

Pedro Pascal, who worked with O'Hara on 'The Last of Us,' shared his gratitude on Instagram, calling her presence vital. O'Hara's legacy includes her iconic role as Moira Rose in 'Schitt's Creek,' winning her an Emmy for Best Comedy Actress.

Friends and colleagues from the entertainment industry, including co-stars from her numerous successful projects, highlighted her warmth and humor. Dan Levy, co-creator of 'Schitt's Creek,' expressed that O'Hara was 'family' long before they starred together.

Her death marks a profound loss for loved ones, including her husband Bo Welch, her two sons Matthew and Luke, and her six siblings.
