In a devastating incident early Wednesday morning, three teenagers from Alès, France lost their lives after their car skidded off the road and crashed into a private swimming pool, settling upside down and trapping them inside.
The victims, aged 14, 15, and 19, were unable to escape the submerged vehicle, drowning in the icy water. Public prosecutor Abdelkrim Grini remarked, It's truly the height of horror... They had no chance to get out.\
The accident, described as the result of an unbelievable series of circumstances, unfolded during a night of heavy rain, causing the vehicle to smash through a low-level garden wall before flipping over into the pool.
Emergency services were not alerted until several hours later, at which point firefighters drained the pool and recovered the wrecked car. Reports indicate that canisters of nitrous oxide, a substance often used recreationally, were found within the vehicle.
An investigation has commenced to determine the exact causes of the incident, with the victims' bodies taken to a forensic institute for post mortem examinations.
