An investigation is underway following the death of French streamer Raphaël Graven, better known as Jeanpormanove, who was discovered deceased in a residence in Contes, located north of Nice. The 46-year-old streamer reportedly passed away while live streaming, triggering a national outcry regarding the extreme challenges he faced, including episodes of violence and sleep deprivation.
French government minister Clara Chappaz has described Graven’s situation as a "horrifying" ordeal, stating he had endured humiliation over several months. "What happened to him is absolute horror," Chappaz noted, further referring the matter to Arcom, France's media regulatory body, and Pharos, a reporting system for online content.
The streaming platform Kick, where Graven was known for his interactive content, expressed condolences, stating they were "urgently reviewing" the circumstances surrounding his tragic death. A company spokesperson mentioned their commitment to ensuring the safety of their creators under community guidelines aimed at protecting users.
Sarah El Haïry, France's High Commissioner for Children, called the streamer’s death "horrifying" and emphasized the crucial role of platforms in regulating content, urging parents to monitor what their children are exposed to online.
In light of Graven's passing, the prosecutor's office confirmed that an investigation has been launched, alongside an ordered autopsy to determine the cause of death. Graven's fans mourn his loss, with co-creators and fellow streamers urging respect for his memory and asking the public not to circulate clips of his last moments.
