At least one person is dead and nine others are injured after a shooting and a fire at a Mormon church in Michigan, local police say.

Officials reported an active shooter incident at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Grand Blanc, approximately 60 miles (96 km) northwest of Detroit, on Sunday morning.

There are multiple victims and the shooter is down, police stated. Authorities have not yet identified the suspect or disclosed a motive.

The Grand Blanc Township Police Department confirmed there is no further threat to the public and the fire has been contained.

US Attorney General Pam Bondi shared on X that she had received briefings on what appears to be a horrific shooting and fire at the church. She urged prayers for the victims, remarking on the heartbreaking nature of violence in places of worship.

FBI Director Kash Patel reiterated that federal agents were dispatched to assist local authorities, labeling the incident a cowardly and criminal act.

Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer condemned the violence, stating, Violence anywhere, especially in a place of worship, is unacceptable, and assured that she was closely monitoring the situation.
