The United Arab Emirates has passed a death sentence on three individuals for the abduction and killing of Rabbi Zvi Kogan, a Moldovan Israeli, marking a significant case amidst the concerns regarding the safety of the country’s expanding Jewish community. The ruling came from the Abu Dhabi Federal Court of Appeals’ State Security Chamber, which classified the murder as a “premeditated act with terrorist intention,” according to the state news agency WAM.The court has not revealed the motives behind the crime but stated that a fourth accomplice received a prison sentence followed by deportation. Their identity has not been made public, however, earlier reports from the UAE Interior Ministry mentioned individuals named Olimboy Tohirovich and Makhmudjon Abdurakhim, both aged 28, and 33-year-old Azizbek Kamilovich as the suspects. Photos of the accused, visibly restrained at the time of their extradition from Turkey, were circulated in the media. The court heard extensive evidence presented by the State Security Prosecution, which included confessions made by the defendants, forensic reports, autopsy details, and witness testimonies. However, specifics regarding the circumstances of Rabbi Kogan's abduction and eventual murder remain undisclosed. The legal proceedings highlight a marked response from UAE authorities to a severe crime that raises questions about the implications for their diverse cultural communities.
