Eight individuals suffered injuries on a Ryanair flight that was forced to divert to an airport in southern Germany due to "severe turbulence" caused by poor weather conditions, according to local police. The incident occurred on Wednesday night, affecting passengers on a flight traveling from Berlin to Milan.
Among the injured was a two-year-old child who sustained bruises, as well as a woman who incurred a head injury. Bavarian police reported that three individuals had to be taken to a local hospital for further medical attention, while others received treatment at the scene.
In response to the incident, Ryanair has issued an apology to the impacted passengers, noting that the flight's captain had preemptively called for medical assistance. The aircraft successfully landed at Memmingen Airport at 20:44 local time (19:44 BST), avoiding potential complications by not attempting to land at Munich Airport due to the prevailing weather issues.
Local authorities indicated that, given the circumstances, the Southern Bavaria Aviation Authority did not approve any onward flight on Wednesday night. However, Ryanair has since arranged "alternative transport" for the passengers to reach Milan that evening, along with plans for a replacement flight scheduled for Thursday morning.
The flight carried a total of 179 passengers and six crew members, with those injured ranging in age from two to 59 years. As a safety measure, all passengers were thoroughly checked for any injuries following the unsettling experience.
