CHICAGO (AP) — Police in Barcelona are actively searching for James 'Jimmy' Gracey, a 20-year-old college student from the University of Alabama, who has been reported missing after a night out on Tuesday with friends.

The last known sighting of Gracey was around 3 a.m. at the Shoko nightclub near Barceloneta Beach. He did not return to his accommodations, prompting concern from his family, who reside in Elmhurst, Illinois.

The Catalan police have launched extensive search operations, including aerial patrols and underwater sweeps. To assist in the search, friends have begun to distribute missing person posters featuring Gracey's photograph and details of his disappearance.

Gracey's family released a statement expressing their worries, highlighting his responsible nature and dedication to family. 'It is completely out of character for him not to check in with family and friends,' they stated. They are coordinating closely with local authorities and appreciating the outpouring of support.

The University of Alabama has also expressed their concern, stating they are in regular communication with Gracey's family and providing assistance. They urge anyone with information to contact local authorities.

Gracey is known for his involvement in the Theta Chi fraternity and holds two positions within the chapter at the University. His fraternity's CEO emphasized their ongoing support and communication with federal and local lawmakers as the search continues.

The friends and family of Jimmy Gracey remain hopeful for his safe return and are keenly aware of the community's role in assisting during this troubling time.
