Sherrone Moore, recently fired as head coach of Michigan football, has been arrested following allegations of assault and an inappropriate relationship with a staff member. He was expected to be arraigned after spending two nights in jail. The university stated that credible evidence led to his firing, indicating a clear violation of policy.

ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) — Sherrone Moore, the former Michigan football coach, has been embroiled in controversy following his recent termination due to allegations of an inappropriate relationship and an ongoing police investigation related to assault claims.

Moore, who was fired on Wednesday, was arrested and spent two nights in jail before his expected arraignment. Authorities have disclosed little information regarding his arrest, other than confirming he remains under investigation by Pittsfield Township police.

Despite the lack of specific details surrounding the allegations, the University of Michigan stated that an investigation recognized credible evidence against Moore, who is married and a father of three daughters. Athletic director Warde Manuel cited the situation as a clear violation of university policy.

Moore's dismissal follows a five-year contract worth $5.5 million per annum, with the university not needing to buy out the remainder of the deal due to the nature of his firing.

Moore, who was previously the team's offensive coordinator, stepped up to lead the Wolverines following their national title victory, succeeding Jim Harbaugh. As the team prepares to face No. 14 Texas in the Citrus Bowl on December 31, Biff Poggi will serve as interim coach.

The ripple effects of Moore's misconduct could lead to potential player transfers and hesitance from donors involved in the program, marking a significant moment in Michigan football history.
