In brief

In a dramatic incident on the Monash freeway, a woman made a frantic stop after discovering a snake inside her vehicle, prompting a rapid response from authorities.

A Melbourne driver experienced a terrifying moment on the freeway when she discovered a tiger snake – among the most venomous snakes in the world – slithering up her leg while driving at 80 km/h. Victoria Police reported that the woman, alarmed and "acting hiss-terically," managed to navigate through traffic and safely exit her car after feeling something unusual on her foot. Upon stopping, she attempted to flag down passing vehicles, triggering a welfare check from police. Officers arrived to find her in a state of shock, leaving one of her shoes behind in her flight from the car. Melbourne Snake Control was called in to handle the situation, which gathered attention from bewildered drivers who stopped to see the spectacle. Tim Nanninga, from Melbourne Snake Control, recounted that many motorists took out their phones to record the operation, as officers carefully extracted the snake from the woman's vehicle. Once secured, the snake was safely relocated far from urban areas to protect residents, pets, and wildlife alike. The driver was taken to the hospital for a suspected snake bite but is reportedly doing well post-incident. This experience emphasizes the stark coexistence between human habitation and Australia's diverse wildlife.
