A Dubai chocolate-inspired dessert has made its way to South Korea, where the chewy cookie filled with pistachio cream has become the latest sensation. This indulgent treat, which resembles a rice cake, has gained traction since its debut following a viral Instagram post by Jang Won-young of the girl band Ive.
Local media reports show that South Korean shops have been selling hundreds of these cookies in minutes, leading to increased prices for key ingredients as demand surges. Each cookie is currently priced between 5,000 and 10,000 won, but costs may rise further.
Despite other restaurants and even convenience store chains joining the trend, the cookie's success has sparked concerns over shortages of pistachio and has prompted some stores to limit customer purchases to manage the frenzy.
Meanwhile, food critics have observed that the cookie’s dense and thick nature resonates with preferences in South Korean food culture, where visual appeal often outweighs ingredient balance. As excitement continues to build, consumers are also becoming wary of counterfeit cookies flooding the market.
