LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, Pa. — Violence erupted during the homecoming festivities at Lincoln University late Saturday, leaving one person dead and six others injured. The chaos unfolded around 9:30 p.m. outside the International Cultural Center, where attendees had gathered to celebrate the university's history and achievements.

Chester County District Attorney Christopher de Barrena-Sarobe reported that a person with a firearm was detained, and authorities are exploring the possibility of multiple shooters being involved, although they do not view the situation as a direct active threat to the campus.

We don’t have a lot of answers about exactly what happened, stated de Barrena-Sarobe during a brief press conference. He urged anyone with footage from the incident or additional information to reach out to the FBI.

The incident shook the college community, with onlookers fleeing in various directions as panic ensued. Officials have yet to disclose the identities or conditions of the victims, nor the locations where they are being treated.

Lincoln University Police Chief Marc Partee expressed his sorrow over the incident, characterizing the community's response as devastated. If there was another word to describe that, that's more impactful, I would use it, but 'devastated' is a start, he said, reflecting on how the spectacle of celebration turned into tragedy.

Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro offered support during this difficult time, encouraging prayers for the Lincoln University community. He emphasized that his administration stands ready to assist in the aftermath of the shooting.

The university, located approximately 45 miles southwest of Philadelphia, is currently under investigation by local detectives, with assistance from state police and federal authorities. As the investigation continues, the university seeks to restore a sense of safety and support for its students amid a profoundly unsettling experience.
