In brief

Isidora Uribe Silva is empowering marginalized voices and driving change toward inclusive policies both locally in Chile and globally.

In a world where discrimination often stifles progress, Isidora Uribe Silva stands as a beacon of hope and resilience. Diagnosed with cerebral palsy, Isidora first tasted exclusion at the tender age of 12. "My initial school experience was positive, but everything changed when I switched schools," she reflects. "Bullying from classmates and a lack of support from teachers left me isolated." After enduring seven months away from education, she found solace in a welcoming institution, Institución Teresiana, in Santiago, Chile. This turning point opened her eyes to the systemic exclusion affecting not only her life but countless others facing similar challenges. Now 20 and pursuing law at the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile, Isidora has dedicated her life to advocating for inclusion and equality, especially for disabled women. At just 13 years old, she launched the app "Encuentra Tu Lugar" (Find Your Place), aimed at helping those with disabilities locate accessible parking spaces throughout Chile. Isidora's passion didn't stop there; she founded an organization with the same name, broadening her impact. As a member of the Generation Equality Adolescent Committee under U.N. Women, she actively engages in global conversations about gender equity in leadership and decision-making processes, striving to ensure marginalized voices are heard. Through her initiatives, Isidora demonstrates the potential for personal adversity to fuel meaningful change, transforming her painful experiences into platforms for advocacy. Her journey aligns with a growing movement towards inclusion, exemplified not just in Chile but as a vital nugget of global discourse. Isidora's story is a powerful reminder that, with determination and compassion, one voice can indeed resonate beyond borders, inspiring a collective shift toward empathy and accessibility for all.
