Robert Mugabe Jr., 33, appeared in a Harare court charged with drug possession, following his arrest for driving the wrong way down a one-way street. Police found two small sachets of cannabis in a bag he was wearing, leading to further investigations that linked him to a drug syndicate.

Legal counsels plan to deny the charges, with discrepancies noted between police claims and the actual quantity of drugs recovered -- 0.02g versus the 2g cited by the police charge sheet. Mugabe was not handcuffed during his court appearance and wore casual attire.

Along with Mugabe Jr., five alleged members of a related syndicate were arrested, with police stating they recovered marijuana sachets and ecstasy pills from them.

This is not Mugabe Jr.'s first legal issue; he was previously involved in an altercation that led to his arrest in 2023. The late former President Robert Mugabe held power for 37 years before being ousted in 2017 and passed away in 2019.

Relations between the Mugabe family and current President Emmerson Mnangagwa have been strained, but Mugabe Jr. has since reconciled with the ruling Zanu-PF party after attending a rally in 2022.
