Her representatives stated that Swift had no role in any decisions regarding casting or creative elements of the film and had not seen any edits or made notes for it. Swift's main contribution was granting permission for the use of her song, "My Tears Ricochet," as part of the film's soundtrack. Following the film's release in summer 2024, Lively filed a lawsuit against Baldoni, prompting him to countersue the actress and her husband, actor Ryan Reynolds, for claims including civil extortion and defamation.
Baldoni has claimed that during their 2023 meeting to discuss modifications, Ryan Reynolds and Swift were present, and he described Lively's efforts in a text, likening her to the character Khaleesi from "Game of Thrones." Supporting statements attributed to Baldoni commend Lively's talent but have sparked further controversy regarding Swift's supposed influence.
