The tragic event has raised concerns about safety on popular tourist attractions. The incident took place just moments before the cable car was set to reach its destination on Monte Faito, a renowned scenic spot that offers expansive views of the Gulf of Naples and the iconic Mount Vesuvius. Mayor of Castellammare di Stabia, Luigi Vicinanza, confirmed that the ride fell from a height after a traction cable snapped, which also caused a blockage affecting a second cable car at the Castellammare station.Among the deceased were Elaine Margaret Winn and Graeme Derek Winn from Britain, and Janan Suleiman, an Israeli national. The only survivor from the incident, Thabet Suleiman—Janan's brother—was reported in critical condition at a hospital in Naples. Local officials indicated that family members of the victims would be arriving shortly to offer support. The accident has resulted in an investigation by Italian prosecutors to determine the cause of the cable failure. Emergency responders managed to rescue nine individuals who were trapped in the lower cable car using harnesses. Mayor Vicinanza called the incident “tragic,” and it has deeply affected the local community that is accustomed to welcoming tourists eager to experience the breathtaking views from the cable car.
