Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared that the military has "eliminated" Mohammed Sinwar, the chief of Hamas in Gaza. Sinwar, a prominent figure and sibling of the organization's previous leader Yahya Sinwar, was targeted in a significant airstrike on May 13. This attack took place in the area surrounding the European hospital located in Khan Younis. According to the Israeli military, this operation effectively dismantled Hamas's essential underground infrastructure in the region.

The health ministry run by Hamas reported that the strike resulted in the unfortunate deaths of 28 individuals; however, the organization has yet to confirm or deny Sinwar's demise. His brother, Yahya Sinwar, was killed during an Israeli operation in October 2023, following the devastating Hamas-led assault on Israel that resulted in approximately 1,200 casualties and the abduction of 251 others.

The ongoing military operations by Israel in response to Hamas' actions have led to a staggering loss of life, with Gaza's health ministry estimating over 54,084 fatalities in the territory since the conflict reignited. The fallout from these tensions continues to resonate across the region, and investigations into the strikes, particularly on civilian sites like the European hospital, remain ongoing.
