New homeowners in Erstroff, a quaint village in eastern France, stumbled upon a somber revelation while renovating their recently acquired property. During efforts to pinpoint a roof leak, they discovered what prosecutors are calling the missing body of the former homeowner, Aloïs Iffly, who had vanished without a trace in 2009 at the age of 81.
Identification from a regional newspaper, Le Republicain Lorrain, confirmed the remains belong to Iffly, whose wife resided in the house until her passing in 2020, paving the way for the recent sale. Prosecutor Olivier Glady detailed that the circumstances surrounding the discovered remains suggest a tragic end, with a rope still hanging in the attic at the time of discovery on November 2.
The house was sold this year, and the new occupants were shocked to find skeletal remains tucked away in a cubbyhole. Local law enforcement has since launched an investigation into the incident, with the remains sent to Strasbourg for further autopsy analysis. This investigation could potentially resolve the long-standing mystery of Aloïs Iffly’s 15-year disappearance, a case that has remained unsolved despite extensive searches and community concern in the region.
