Several prisons throughout France have become the focal point of a shocking wave of attacks, which have escalated tensions surrounding the country's penal institutions. According to Justice Minister Gérald Darmanin, a series of "intimidation attempts" have unfolded, showcasing a troubling trend in violence against these facilities.
Reports indicate that vehicles were set ablaze in several prison car parks, while an alarming incident in Toulon involved gunfire from an automatic weapon directed at the prison itself. Major news outlet La Parisien has detailed that at least six different establishments were included in this recent spate of violence: notably Toulon, Aix-en-Provence, Marseille, Valence, Nîmes, Luynes, Villepinte, and Nanterre.
In response to these incidents, Darmanin took to social media platform X, announcing his travel to Toulon to provide support to the responding officers and address the critical situation firsthand. While no direct blame has been placed on specific groups for these attacks, Darmanin hinted that the French government is gearing up to enact measures designed to "profoundly disrupt" the criminal networks believed to be orchestrating such assaults.
