In brief

A group of courageous individuals successfully subdued an armed teenager attempting to board a flight in Australia, averting potential disaster. The incident highlights the quick response from passengers and crew as they prevented a possible tragedy.

A tense moment unfolded at Avalon Airport in southeastern Australia when a 17-year-old boy attempted to board Jetstar Flight 610 while armed with a shotgun. The flight, which had around 150 passengers on board and was set for Sydney, was quickly put on alert after a crew member noticed the teenager's suspicious behavior. The teenager, whose identity has not been disclosed, sparked panic among passengers as he displayed his firearm upon being questioned about his credentials. One of the passengers, Barry Clark, a sheep shearer on his way to a football match, recounted the grim moment. After the shotgun was brandished, Clark, along with others, sprang into action. He managed to subdue the teen by twisting his arm and forcing him to the ground, holding him down until the authorities arrived.Victoria Police arrived promptly at around 2:20 p.m. local time, taking the teenager into custody. He now faces multiple charges related to the incident. Officers also discovered two bags and a vehicle associated with the teen, leading to the involvement of a bomb response unit as a precautionary measure. Thankfully, no one was injured, and the quick thinking of passengers and flight crew likely prevented a much worse outcome.
