Despite typically being harmless, the area is known for sharks congregating due to warm water from a power plant.

A swimmer is currently missing following a highly unusual shark attack that occurred off the coast of Hadera, Israel on Monday, an incident that has shocked both local and online communities. The attack took place approximately 40 kilometers (25 miles) north of Tel Aviv, as onlookers on Olga Beach captured the harrowing events on video, expressing their shock at the sight.

The normally calm waters, known to host harmless sharks—particularly dusky and sandbar species—became a scene of panic as a witness, Eliya Motai, reported seeing blood and hearing screams in the aftermath of the attack. Motai recounted being only a few meters from shore when the chaos unfolded, remarking, "It's terrifying. We were here yesterday and saw the sharks circling us."

The area near the Orot Rabin power station, Israel's largest, is known to attract sharks due to the warm water it expels and the fish drawn from nearby streams. Authorities have since closed the beach and commenced a search for the missing man. This incident marks only the fourth confirmed shark attack in Israel's history since its establishment in 1948, highlighting the rarity of such events in these waters.
