Shakira has announced the cancellation of her upcoming concert in Washington, D.C., following "complications" during her previous show in Boston, where the performance was also halted. The Colombian music sensation was set to take the stage at Nationals Park on Saturday as part of WorldPride, one of the most significant LGBTQ+ events globally.
In a statement provided by the stadium, it was revealed that issues arising from the Boston concert made it impossible for Shakira's complete tour production to be transported to Washington, D.C., on schedule. The singer expressed her sorrow, stating, "I am devastated that the shows were just not possible this time. Because of the unforeseen and unfortunate circumstances that affected me and other artists in Boston, my full tour production cannot be moved to Washington, D.C., in time for my planned performance on Saturday."
Shakira, 48, added, "I have been counting the days, excited to be reunited with my fans in both Washington and Boston. I promise I will do everything in my power to be with you as soon as I can." Nationals Park reiterated their commitment to fans, offering automatic refunds for all ticket holders.
The canceled Boston performance took place at Fenway Park shortly before Shakira was scheduled to perform on May 29, while shows by country stars Jason Aldean and Brooks & Dunn were also scrapped due to similar issues. The cancellations were attributed to safety concerns regarding the structural integrity of the stage, identified during a pre-show inspection by entertainment company Live Nation.
On social media, many fans expressed their disappointment, particularly those who had traveled across the country to attend. "Flew in from LA for this. I'm experiencing a second cancellation of this tour," one user lamented, while others voiced their support, emphasizing that the situation was unfortunate for the artist.
Despite the setbacks, Shakira remains active in North America, continuing her Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran tour in support of her twelfth studio album, with another performance scheduled in Atlanta on June 2.
