CONCORD, N.H. (Deep Roots News) — Bruna Ferreira, a Brazilian woman with familial ties to White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt, has been granted release from ICE custody following an immigration judge's ruling on Monday. Ferreira, 33, a long-time resident of Massachusetts, was arrested on November 12 while driving to pick up her 11-year-old son in New Hampshire.

After her detention in a facility in Louisiana, Ferreira was released on a $1,500 bond upon her attorney, Todd Pomerleau's arguments that she was neither a danger nor a flight risk. The government did not contest these assertions and permitted her release without appeal. Pomerleau stated, We argued that she wasn’t a danger or a flight risk,” and emphasized that the Department of Homeland Security had previously labeled her a “criminal illegal alien.”

Ferreira’s attorney denied any allegations of criminal behavior against her, asserting that she sought to apply for a green card and was part of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, an Obama-era immigration policy that shields many children of undocumented immigrants.

As the country grapples with immigration reform and policies, Ferreira's connection to Leavitt has drawn attention. Leavitt, who previously ran for Congress in 2022 but was unsuccessful, served as Trump’s spokesperson and now works in the White House. As the case continues to unfold, it raises important questions about immigration rights and the complexities faced by underrepresented communities.
