Timothy Busfield, a director and Emmy Award-winning actor, has turned himself to authorities in New Mexico in relation to serious child sex abuse charges. Following a warrant issued on January 9, he faces allegations of inappropriately touching a young boy multiple times while directing the TV series 'The Cleaning Lady'. The accused behavior reportedly stems from incidents where the child, then aged just seven and eight, was touched on private areas, leading to fears that he would anger Busfield.
The allegations, brought to the attention of Child Protective Services, involve additional testimony from the boy’s twin brother, who similarly described inappropriate contact with Busfield but feared reprisal from him as well. Busfield denied the accusations during an earlier investigation, suggesting potential motives of revenge from the boys' mother, linked to her children's roles in the production.
The mother’s report to the authorities cited that the distressing events took place between November 2022 and spring 2024. An investigation started when a doctor at the University of New Mexico Hospital alerted Child Protective Services, prompting authorities to act on growing concerns about the children's well-being, with one diagnosed with PTSD and anxiety reportedly having nightmares about Busfield's alleged actions.
While 'The Cleaning Lady' concluded in 2025 after four successful seasons produced by Warner Bros., the studio conducted its own investigation but failed to substantiate the allegations against Busfield. Known for his iconic roles in 'The West Wing', 'Field of Dreams', and 'Thirtysomething', Busfield's career is now overshadowed by these serious accusations as his legal representation remains silent on the matter.
