WASHINGTON (AP) — Newly uncovered emails from disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein indicated that Donald Trump spent hours at Epstein's residence with a victim of sex trafficking, raising questions about Trump's knowledge of Epstein's illicit activities. The emails, released by Democrats on the House Oversight Committee, reveal Epstein's insinuations about Trump's involvement.
One particular email from Epstein in 2011 addressed to Ghislaine Maxwell, who is serving time for her part in Epstein's trafficking schemes, claimed that Trump had never been implicated in the allegations against Epstein. He wrote, that dog that hasn’t barked is Trump, suggesting Trump's lack of acknowledgment in matters involving underage girls.
In another message to journalist Michael Wolff, Epstein implied Trump's knowledge of the situation, stating, Of course he knew about the girls as he asked Ghislaine to stop. This revelation adds to a series of ongoing inquiries concerning Trump's association with Epstein and the extent of his knowledge regarding Epstein's activities.
Trump has repeatedly denied awareness of Epstein's operations, maintaining that he had distanced himself from Epstein years before the allegations surfaced publicly.
In the aftermath of these emails, the White House opted not to comment immediately. Epstein, who died in jail in 2019 while awaiting trial for federal charges related to sex trafficking, has long been a figure of controversy. His associate Maxwell has argued against the legitimacy of her trial, maintaining that her actions in recruiting young girls were not illegal.
