Germany has accused Russia of staging a drone attack at Leipzig/Halle Airport, an act it claims falls within a pattern of hybrid operations aimed at European infrastructure.
On 4 August, authorities uncovered a drone carrying an explosive device near Ukrainian cargo planes. The drone failed to detonate because the detonator appeared faulty, and investigators also suspect a second drone collided with a nearby cargo aircraft.
Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt said this incident was “well-established pattern of Russian hybrid operations in Europe” and that Germany would need to prepare for possible future attacks.
Security experts have speculated that Russia might be behind the attack, yet Russian officials have so far denied any involvement. The investigation is ongoing, with authorities promising further updates.
