Global Coalition Targets Russian Energy to Support Ukraine

A coalition of more than 20 nations supporting Ukraine has made a commitment to remove Russian oil and gas from the global market, aiming to exert increased pressure on President Vladimir Putin to halt the ongoing war in Ukraine.

We're choking off funding for Russia's war machine, stated UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer during a summit with allies in London. The nations involved include both the UK and the US, which have recently imposed sanctions on Russia's leading oil companies.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who joined the discussions in London, emphasized that pressuring Russia is vital to stop the fighting. He has advocated for the provision of advanced military equipment, such as US-made Tomahawk missiles, to enhance Ukraine's capacity to target Russian military assets.

Despite the urgent calls for military support, the summit did not result in announcements regarding long-range missile deliveries.

As the winter approaches, Zelensky warned that Russia aims to use cold temperatures as a weapon against the Ukrainian population, and underscored the need for sufficient air defense against continuous assaults on civilian infrastructure.

The coalition's plans also include discussions about targeting Russian sovereign assets to release billions to aid Ukraine’s defense efforts. However, no detailed action plan emerged from the summit.

In the meantime, everyday life for Ukrainians remains tough, with many citizens focused on issues such as energy shortages and the direct impact of the conflict. As discussions continue, the international community remains vigilant on the developments in Ukraine, awaiting further concrete measures to bolster support.
