SANTA FE, N.M. — Actor Timothy Busfield has been indicted by a grand jury on four counts of criminal sexual contact with a child under age 13, as announced by a New Mexico prosecutor. This indictment is linked to allegations stemming from Busfield's role as a director on the TV series 'The Cleaning Lady' between 2022 and 2024.

Busfield has categorically denied these allegations, initially brought forward by police, with his defense attorney stating he intends to contest the charges vigorously at every phase of the legal process.

Bernalillo County District Attorney Sam Bregman shared the indictment details in a social media update. Busfield voluntarily surrendered to authorities in January over related accusations but was released shortly after by a judge who observed no history of similar complaints regarding children.

The indictment, however, allows the case against Busfield to advance to trial without necessitating an initial hearing to assess the evidence. Reports suggest that one child claimed Busfield touched him inappropriately on multiple occasions, while a twin brother corroborated these claims, albeit delayed by their fears of repercussions or trouble.

Busfield's attorney did not specifically address the nature of the criminal charges but noted that the grand jury had opted against endorsing any grooming charges that were sought by prosecutors. In contrast, the prosecution emphasized the strength of the allegations, supported by medical and therapeutic evidence indicating abuse.

Each count of the indictment carries a potential penalty of six years in prison, with the possibility of enhancements due to the sexual offense nature of the charges. The proceedings highlight serious implications concerning the actor's established career, known for roles in notable productions such as 'The West Wing,' 'Field of Dreams,' and 'Thirtysomething.'
