Production for the new TV series of Harry Potter has begun, as HBO unveils the first image of 11-year-old Scottish actor Dominic McLaughlin in costume as the iconic wizard. This adaptation comes after the success of the original film series and is expected to span the next decade, providing a detailed narrative from J.K. Rowling's novels.

Alongside McLaughlin, new cast members include Rory Wilmot as Neville Longbottom, Amos Kitson portraying Dudley Dursley, Louise Brealey as Madam Rolanda Hooch, and Anton Lesser as Garrick Ollivander. They join previously announced actors like John Lithgow as Dumbledore, Nick Frost as Hagrid, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, and Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape.

The filming will take place at Warner Bros Studios Leavesden, the original location for the eight Harry Potter films. HBO has emphasized that the series aims to be a "faithful adaptation" of Rowling's work, allowing for an expanded storytelling experience without the time constraints faced by the films.

In keeping with its ambitious production values, the series has brought on board seasoned professionals from acclaimed productions like The Crown, including noted director of photography Adriano Goldman and hair and makeup designer Cate Hall. The first series is set to launch in 2027, generating excitement and anticipation among fans of the beloved literary franchise.
