TUCSON, Ariz. — The investigation into the apparent abduction of Nancy Guthrie, mother of famed NBC Today show host Savannah Guthrie, has hit a major hurdle as investigators learn that a crucial doorbell camera at her home was disconnected just prior to her disappearance.
Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos expressed frustration during a recent interview, noting that without an active subscription, the video footage that could have offered critical evidence was lost. It is concerning, it’s actually almost disappointing because you’ve got your hopes up, Nanos stated, highlighting the desperation of the ongoing search for the 84-year-old, who has now been missing for six days.
The authorities suspect Nancy Guthrie was taken against her will from her Tucson home. Evidence such as a DNA match to blood found on her porch substantiates these fears. As the search continues into its sixth day, there has been no progress in identifying suspects or leads.
Concern for Nancy's health is mounting; she requires daily medication for her well-being, given her reported pacemaker and history of high blood pressure. Nanos pointed out the urgency of the situation, stating, Her conditions, I would imagine, are worsening day by day... I have no way of knowing whether they’re getting that medication to her.
Additionally, ongoing investigations into supposedly sent ransom letters provide some leads, but the FBI is handling that aspect of the case and has thus far withheld new information from the public. Contrarily, authorities have shared with the media that they have no new substantial information regarding the case.
The Guthrie family has made an emotional public appeal for information from their mother’s captor, expressing their willingness to negotiate for her safe return but seeking proof that she is alive. This high-profile case has drawn national attention, including comments from federal authorities offering assistance.
As investigators maneuver through technological challenges and the complexities of the case, the sheriff remains hopeful yet cautious, promising continued efforts to gain clarity in the investigation.
