Police are searching for a gunman who shot dead two students and injured nine others at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island.
The attacker was described as a man dressed all in black who fled on foot, prompting a shelter-in-place warning for the area surrounding the prestigious university.

The shooting occurred around 4:00 PM local time on Saturday at the Holley engineering building, during ongoing final exams. Victims were reported as participants in a course review session when the gunman entered, shouted something, and opened fire.
Two students were killed, and nine others were treated for injuries, with one in critical condition. The university's president decried the incident as a devastating blow to the community.
Very little is known about the gunman, who was captured on CCTV walking away from the scene. Investigators continue to search for information, though a weapon was not recovered from the scene initially.
A massive operation involving around 400 officers is underway in Providence, urging residents and nearby students to remain indoors until the situation is resolved.
