A 42-year-old woman from Peru has been apprehended in Bali, accused of trying to smuggle drugs valued at approximately $70,000 (£52,000). The narcotics, which included cocaine and ecstasy, were reportedly concealed in her underwear and inside a sex toy. Identified solely by her initials, N.S., she was stopped by customs officials after exhibiting suspicious behavior, leading to her arrest.

Bali police’s narcotics unit director, who goes by the name Radiant, explained that authorities discovered 1.4kg (3.1lb) of cocaine and 43 ecstasy pills. The drugs were ingeniously wrapped in six plastic packages secured with black duct tape, placed inside a green bra, and additional packages found in her black underwear and a sex toy that had been inserted into her body.

Upon questioning, N.S. reportedly confessed to being hired for $19,000 to transport the drugs into Bali by an individual she communicated with on the dark web back in April. She arrived on the Indonesian island after a connecting flight from Barcelona, Spain, via Doha, on August 12.

Indonesia is well-known for its stringent drug laws, which can include severe penalties for trafficking offenses, and although the nation has temporarily halted the death penalty since 2017, the woman's fate may still hinge on the outcome of this case. In related news, three British nationals last month narrowly escaped capital punishment after being convicted of smuggling cocaine disguised as packets of Angel Delight in a separate incident.
