Zimbabwean football star Divine Lunga survives gun attack in South Africa
Zimbabwean footballer Divine Lunga, 31, survived an armed assault while driving through Johannesburg’s Hillbrow suburb. The incident, reported by police spokesperson Captain Tintswalo Sibeko, was described as an “attempted murder” with shots fired from an unknown gunman. Lunga, who plays for Zimbabwe’s national team and the South African side Mamelodi Sundowns, escaped unharmed.
The attack highlights the persistent crime problem in South Africa, where the country’s murder rate remains one of the highest in the world. While no arrests have yet been made, investigators are looking into the case. According to local sources, Lunga was on his way to church with his younger brother when the driver’s licence plate was mistaken for that of an undercover police officer, prompting the shooting.
