Carl Lundstrom, aged 64, known for his financial backing of the notorious file-sharing service Pirate Bay, lost his life in a small plane crash in Slovenia. The incident occurred amidst severe weather conditions, hampering rescue efforts as investigators seek the cause behind the tragic accident.
Carl Lundstrom, the 64-year-old heir to a Swedish crisp bread fortune and notable financier of the infamous file-sharing service Pirate Bay, tragically died on Monday in a small plane crash in Slovenia, according to a statement from Alternative for Sweden, a far-right political party he supported. The crash took place in the Velika Planina mountainous region after Lundstrom piloted his Mooney M20 aircraft from Zagreb, Croatia, to Zurich, Switzerland. Slovenian police reported that air traffic controllers lost contact with the plane shortly after takeoff. Rescuers faced extremely poor weather conditions, which thwarted aerial rescue operations, compelling them to rely on a gondola and a rigorous foot hike to access the remote crash site.Upon arrival, rescuers found remnants of the aircraft embedded in a wooden hut, which was significantly damaged in the crash. The police later discovered Lundstrom's body amidst the wreckage; however, the exact causes leading to the crash remain undetermined at this time.As a notable figure connected to the company Wasabröd, founded by his grandfather, Lundstrom also had a controversial reputation due to his affiliations with far-right causes and previous legal troubles, including a conviction for copyright infringement in 2009. His legacy, entwined with the influential Pirate Bay, is complicated by his political activities and public persona.
