A British woman has tragically lost her life during a white-water rafting expedition on the Guisane river in the picturesque French Alps. The unfortunate event took place shortly after noon local time on Saturday, as confirmed by regional prosecutor Marion Lozac'hmeur in a statement to the French news agency AFP.
The woman fell from her raft in an area known as "the wallet," and was subsequently found on the riverbank in critical condition before being airlifted to a nearby hospital. Despite medical efforts, she passed away later that evening. The Foreign Office has acknowledged the situation and is coordinating with local authorities for further assistance.An investigation for involuntary manslaughter has been initiated, with a scheduled autopsy pending to determine the exact circumstances surrounding her death. This incident follows a past fatality on the Durance river, also in Briancon, during the summer months last year. Both rivers are renowned for white-water rafting, particularly in spring when they are fed by melting glaciers and snow, creating challenging rapids that attract adventurers. However, these waterways are usually only navigable for a limited period each summer.
