The FBI has released the first physical description of the man believed to have kidnapped Nancy Guthrie, the mother of US news anchor Savannah Guthrie. Nancy Guthrie, aged 84, was reported missing from her Tucson, Arizona home and was last seen two weeks ago, with authorities believing she was taken against her will.
Following an analysis of doorbell camera footage, the FBI has identified the suspect as a male standing between 5ft 9in and 5ft 10in tall with an average build. This is the first official identification of the individual seen in the video, and the case has garnered significant media attention both domestically and internationally.
In its latest statement, the FBI confirmed its forensic analysis helped in establishing identifying details, including a notable backpack identified as a 25-litre Ozark Trail Hiker Pack, worn by the suspect during the kidnapping.
Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos has expressed concern over Nancy’s health, underscoring the urgency of the situation given her need for medication. Since her disappearance on January 31, the FBI has received over 13,000 tips, indicating a surge of public interest and concern for her safe return. To that end, the reward for credible information related to her disappearance has been doubled to $100,000.
The family, particularly Savannah and her siblings, have taken to social media, imploring anyone with information about their mother's whereabouts to come forward. Their pleas echo a belief that Nancy is still alive and may even offer a ransom for her safe return.
