Estonia has reported that a NATO fighter jet downed a drone, suspected to be a Ukrainian projectile deflected by Russian electronic jamming, over its territory. At a press conference, Defence Minister Hanno Pevkur stated that a Romanian F-16 fired a missile, resulting in the drone debris falling into a marshy area in central Estonia. Fortunately, no damage was reported.

In response to the incident, Ukraine accused Russia of intentionally redirecting its drones targeting legitimate military sites back into Baltic airspace and apologized to Estonia and neighboring Baltic states for the unintended violation. Russia has, however, remained silent on this incident.

The event marks a continuation of drone incursions over NATO allies Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania—where tensions have escalated due to increasing drone and missile strikes from Ukraine against Russian targets. Recent developments include the resignation of Latvian Prime Minister Evika Silina after similar incidents, while Estonia tracked the rogue drone even before it entered its air space, underscoring growing apprehensions in the region over potential provocations by Russia.

Local media have reported the drone falling in a forest close to residential areas, with witnesses describing the incident. Ukrainian officials also conveyed concerns regarding ongoing Russian meddling designed to create turmoil within NATO member nations.
