WILMINGTON, Del. — William Stevenson, 77, who was previously married to Jill Biden, is now facing first-degree murder charges regarding the death of his wife, Linda Stevenson, aged 64. He was indicted on March 27 after authorities discovered Linda unresponsive in their home on December 28 of the previous year.

As police responded to a reported domestic dispute, they found Linda and attempted life-saving measures, which tragically proved ineffective. Stevenson remains incarcerated, unable to post the $500,000 bail. Authorities have yet to publicly disclose a motive for the alleged murder.

The case has drawn notable media attention due to Stevenson’s past, having been formerly married to Jill Biden from 1970 until 1975. Since then, Jill married Joe Biden, who was serving as President from January 2021 until January 2025. In light of these allegations, a spokesperson for the Bidens reported that Jill has declined to comment on the situation.

Linda Stevenson was remembered in her obituary as a dedicated mother, grandmother, and Philadelphia Eagles fan, highlighting her community ties and the legacy she leaves behind.

William Stevenson is also recognized as the founder of the popular music venue, Stone Balloon, in Newark, Delaware, established in the 1970s. The unfolding legal proceedings surrounding his recent charges might evoke a host of reactions from the public, given his historical connections.
