PROVIDENCE, R.I. — The Brown University community is grappling with the aftermath of a horrific shooting that left two students dead and many others injured. In this time of uncertainty, students and alumni have come together to honor the victims and seek solace amidst the tragedy.
Authorities have released new footage and are asking the public to share any videos that might lead to identifying the suspect, who remains at large. Despite previously gathered surveillance, which revealed a cloaked figure moving around the Providence area, investigators have not yet pinpointed a clear image of the gunman.
Providence Police Chief Col. Oscar Perez called upon citizens with possible footage from their private cameras to assist in the investigation, stating that critical moments can often be fleeting.
While officials like Rhode Island Attorney General Peter Neronha confidently state the investigation is progressing well, the lack of identifiable video has left both the police and the community yearning for more information.
In response to the tragedy, around 200 individuals gathered at a somber church service on campus to commemorate the victims. Chris Kremer, a Brown alumnus, expressed a poignant sentiment about the need for collective grief, emphasizing the importance of finding peace together rather than being isolated in sorrow.
The incident has escalated discussions surrounding campus security. While Brown University has numerous security systems, many question their effectiveness in actively responding to threats. Some community members are advocating for improved safety protocols, but others believe that the crux of the problem lies deeper, in broader societal issues concerning gun control.
