The US Food and Drug Administration (USFDA) has raised an alert for consumers of Celsius energy drinks following an error that resulted in some cans being inadvertently filled with vodka. The issue pertains specifically to the Astro Vibe Blue Razz edition of the energy drink. This alarming mix-up occurred when a packaging supplier mistakenly sent empty Celsius cans to the vodka seltzer producer High Noon, which subsequently filled them with alcoholic content.
The recall includes High Noon’s Beach Variety packs that share the same production line as the affected Celsius cans. Fortunately, the USFDA has reported that no illnesses or adverse effects have been linked to these products thus far. The recall affects two specific production lots, details of which have been published on the USFDA's official website. The affected products reached retailers in states such as Florida, New York, Ohio, South Carolina, Virginia, and Wisconsin, with shipping dates between July 21 and July 23.
For those with the recalled High Noon packs, the retail code UPC 085000040065 and the relevant lot codes are as follows: L CCC 17JL25 from 14:00 to 23:59, and L CCC 18JL25 from 00:00 to 03:00. Moreover, the Celsius cans carry the retail code UPC 8 89392 00134 1 and the lot codes L CCB 02JL25 from 2:55 to 3:11. These lot codes can be found laser-etched on the bottom of the cans.
In light of these developments, the USFDA advises consumers to dispose of the affected Celsius Astro Vibe energy drink cans and refrain from consuming the contents. Notably, High Noon Beach Variety packs with different lot codes remain unaffected and are considered safe for consumer use.
