Rapper Tory Lanez has been hospitalized following a stabbing incident at a California prison, as confirmed by state corrections officials. The 31-year-old Canadian hip-hop artist was attacked by another inmate on Tuesday morning at the California Correctional Institution located in Tehachapi, approximately 75 miles (120 kilometers) north of Los Angeles.

According to Pedro Calderón Michel from the state's corrections department, prison staff promptly responded to the situation, activated emergency services, and provided medical aid to Lanez before he was transported to a local medical facility for further treatment. While no specific details regarding Lanez's current condition have been disclosed, media sources report that his injuries are considered non-life threatening. An investigation is currently underway concerning the stabbing, which occurred around 07:20 local time (15:20 GMT), although the motive behind the attack remains unaddressed by officials.

Tory Lanez, whose legal name is Daystar Peterson, is serving a 10-year sentence for shooting fellow musician Megan Thee Stallion during a 2020 incident at a party. Lanez was convicted in 2023 on three felony gun-related charges, including assault with a semi-automatic firearm. The confrontation took place as they were leaving a gathering at reality star Kylie Jenner's home, during which an argument escalated into violence. Megan Thee Stallion testified that she sought to exit the vehicle they were in, and Lanez fired a gun while urging her to "dance," resulting in her requiring surgery to remove bullet fragments from her foot. Lanez has consistently denied wrongdoing and declined to apologize.

The case surrounding Lanez has sparked division within the hip-hop community, with several artists, including 50 Cent and Iggy Azalea, publicly commenting on the situation and advocating for leniency in his sentencing. Prior to his conviction, Lanez had produced seven US top 10 albums over a span of seven years. He has hinted at releasing a new album titled Peterson while serving his time in prison.
